Do I have to make an appointment?

We welcome walk-ins. However, we recommend that you schedule an appointment to reduce your waiting time. Also, please be advised that appointments take priority. If possible, prior to walking in, please contact our office so we may make every effort to work you into the schedule and decrease any potential wait time on your part.

What do I need to bring for my background check appointment?

Your Agency’s Authorization and ORI Number
Any documentation provided by the requesting agency for your Criminal Background Check
The reason you are being fingerprinted
A current Government-issued Photo ID
The Livescan Pre-Registration Application filled (to speed up the process and decrease the waiting time)

When do I pay for my background checking service?

Payment must be made at the time of your appointment.

How can I pay for my background check?

You may use any of the following payment options:

Business Check
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover Credit and Debit Cards
Money Order
Cash
Pre-approved Agency Invoice

We do not accept personal checks.

How often do I need to be fingerprinted?

A new background check must be performed for each new employment or licensing application submitted, and the results will be sent from CJIS to the requesting agency or individual. See also that applicants’ prints and demographic information are, by law, destroyed 90 days after collection, so we retain no records beyond that time.

What is the time frame I have to submit my CJIS receipt to MD State Police Licensing Division after I leave your office?

Your CJIS receipt must be submitted within 72 hours (3 business days).

Can I request a criminal history record check for my own records?

Yes, you can. It’s called Individual Review (IR-state of MD check only) and it’s used for individual criminal history background checks ONLY. The results are sent to your home address.

Why do I need an Authorization Number?

An Authorization Number tells CJIS where to send the results of your background check, making sure that your information is submitted to whom it is concerned, either for hiring or licensing purposes. The employer and/or licensing agency should supply you with their individual Authorization Number.
Why Criminal History Records Check is required for the Renewal of an Existing License/Certification?
In 2006, House Bill 1318 and Senate Bill 769 were passed requiring criminal history records checks of all Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) renewal applicants. Criminal History Record Checks (CHRC) for selected renewal applicants will begin this year. The Board will be implementing the CHRC for renewals, one month per year for the next 12 years.
ALL RNs, LPNs, and CNAs EXPIRING AUGUST 28, 2012 MUST OBTAIN A CHRC IN ORDER TO RENEW.

Any RN, LPN, or CNA listed as NON-RENEWED for more than one year after the last expiration must obtain a CHRC in order to renew.

Renewal applications will not be processed without a criminal history record check.
